Lust and Other Fast Foods...

Last evening, I watched them practice one play, Smell. I read the script of the other play, The Seduction. Very funny, I say.

You can catch both plays on Sunday at NIFT, Madhapur. There are two shows one each at 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Tickets are for Rs. 200 each.

PS: The entire bunch of people acting, directing, working backstage are madly crazy. A total laugh-riot even when they were not mouthing their dialogs.

I have been away far too long from this blog now.

I lost my FIL to a sudden cardiac arrest on April 13, around midnight. It was a tough time for the family -  The last rites, the travel to Mysore for the immersion of the ashes and the pujas that followed thereafter, my ill-health and the doctor's visits left me drained - physically and emotinally.

My FIL was the strongest person i know who bore all his illnesses with fortitude. I am sure he is in a better place right now, happier and in less pain...

My only wish is that I had spent more time with him, a regret that I will live with. I also now realize, that I can't keep putting off things to another day... So I have made a promise to myself, to live more fully, enjoy each day and work a little bit harder to make my dreams come true.

Freeda and her Koo Koo n Kute Stuff

2 Thoughts / Comments / Views
I love you, Internet. You make my life very interesting. I am amazed at the kind of talent that people have, and which only you can bring closer to me.

Now that that's out of the way let's talk about Freeda Lazar and her Koo Koo N Kute stuff.

Yesterday, Bila who calls me Bica, sent me a link to a tumblr called Radioactive Rasam. First reaction was WOW! Even before I saw the blog. Double-WOW when i saw it. I still did not know this was Freeda's blog (she atleast needs to put her name in there, methinks). When Bila told me this was Freeda's blog, i walked a few steps down memory lane, when I had met Freeda at Bila's workplace for the first time in Bangalore. She was busy making plasticine figures for a shoot and i was very impressed with what i saw. Then i saw her Fink Fixels (loved) and her wedding card (also loved).
The Koo Koo n Kute Stuff: She has just started a line of hand-painted and stitched curtain holders and door huggers that will make you ooh-n-aah and go I-want-I-want.
Mellow Yellow Curtain Holder
Oh-So-Blue
Red Flutter Fly
Yellow Bumble Bee
Fat Birdie Sr

Yellow Bumblebee Sr and Jr

Awesome stuff this. And all hand-painted too.  Send an email to freedalazar@gmail.com if you want these cuties.

I could send you all flowers but these daisy-shaped Sunny Sides seemed more fitting.

Congratulations on this milestone and cheers! For many more to come :)

Nuon flip flops

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views

Those are the other A's flip flops that i love to steal and wear.
Before the Goa trip, I picked them up from Nuon, a Westside brand for Rs. 199. They have a nice, decently priced, colorful and smart collection for men. Have you checked it out yet?

AB Chao's Bedroom - Before and After

1 Thoughts / Comments / Views
So there I was thinking last week that I won't find a decent better-after, after I posted my favorites pictures from Sherry and John's home. I Was So Wrong. I remember seeing this a long time ago, when i wasn't blogging that often. I loved it then. I love it now. So without much ado and digressing, here it is:

Anna Beth Chao's Bedroom Makeover
I am still speechless and marveling what paint and imagination can do to a space. Makes me want to move home now...

Oh and you should go see her website, and her flicker pictures. And when you stop drooling, leave me a note to let me know if you found it as super-awesome as i did.

Another paisley tuesday... and another trip to Goa

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views

Me, alone, for a couple of hours. Me loved it.
... and no posts in between. For a good reason, too. I was off to sunny Goa with the Sunny Side Up team. It was my most chilled out, peaceful holiday. Ever. Until the last day that is. Which means that even though I reached early yesterday, I was on a holiday mood all day long.

We stayed at Chattai Beach Huts @ Agonda, the place i wanted to stay in, on my previous trip. It was lovely, if you are looking for a quiet time, far away from noise, pollution, traffic, people even. So yes, I am feeling pretty calm now, so much so that I am even typing my words at half my usual speed...

About the shopping... I picked up a pair of super comfy pink pants that i am wearing right now, two tees, and a pretty ceramic pendant which are my only purchases. Oh, yes there is a small watercolor of a boat by an artist called Vakula. All from the Anjuna / Arpora Night Market which happens on Saturday nights at Arpora. Noisy, colorful, festive, tattoos, dreadlocks, flowers, and more firangs than Indians.

I am not a big fan of dreadlocks but i like this lady and her tattoo too.
I know I digress. Again. Good holidays make you do that, I guess.  Before I digress again, here's the paisley round up from me, for you, for this week.

2 pretty pendants from Jascamille, Etsy

Strungout designs, on Etsy.
Deja Vu. I have doodled this design so many times. Yes, i love this silver pendant.

From Jpleasant on Etsy
I  have always loved green and blue together. Denim shorts, white tee and this bag. mmm

And this bird / paisley pouch in orange and red is irresistible. Perfect to keep odds and ends in. Which I always end up with plenty of.

From bluecalla, on Etsy
Another cloth bag. The blue and brown is another favorite. And did you notice the rings where the straps are tied? Takes the coolness quotient several notches high.

And before I sign off, here's another Goa pic. Of me this time...

Have a lovely week. And do leave a note in my guest book.

Paisley Tuesday

Nabila, a dear old friend, is super-talented. She has a way with words, clicks fantastic pictures, cracks the craziest PJs, sings, belly-dances, makes stuff, and paints. Yes, totally talented. She sent me this paisley motifs that she did recently.

I just love the quirky touches and the simple designs. The one with the hearts and the one with the flowers are my favorites. She is thinking of getting it all printed on fabric or paper. I definitely want some for sure.

I also saw these lovely wooden fridge magnets at D-Cube. When you like something, you notice it everywhere, I guess. :)

I also like these paisley / non-paisley motifs I found here. Aren't they pretty? I especially love the last one on the first row... what do you think of it as a tattoo on my ankle.

Get yourself a bag O'brownies

Shweta Dhopeshwarkar, (yes, she does have an impossibly long surname,) is an extremely talented baker / blogger who has gotten into the business of making desserts.

Shweta left a flourishing career with a research agency to follow her passion for food and baking. She joined a culinary academy, interned at Mumbai and has now started Bag o Brownies. I went to visit her at the flea market at D-Cube and got some home which were a super-duper-hit with everyone. Her brownies, not surprisingly, were a total sell-out.

So yes, if you want super-delicious brownies, then you can contact her and order a batch.

PS: She writes as yummily about food as she cooks it. Check her blog to see what I am talking about!

Lights in a bottle

3 Thoughts / Comments / Views
Shahir, my Spanish teacher, did this for his friend's birthday.

I love this lights-in-a-bottle birthday gift idea. It does not require too much effort or time, looks really lovely and would make anyone's birthday memorable. For someone like me who has not touched a paint brush in years, it's perfectly doable.

Post birthday too, it can be used as mood lighting at home. Or the balcony or terrace. It would look so romantic and sweet.  I can imagine it on a stair case... with some potted plants around. I am definitely going to try this sometime soon unlike the other bottle ideas that i posted about but never got around to trying it.

I am also thinking i could get Raam to design something, print it on sticker paper and personalize it. Hmmmm....

Pull it back

0 Thoughts / Comments / Views
When you wake up before the roosters do, your hair is super greasy, and you are already late, just pull it back with a wide hairband. It's super-effective, super-quick and looks pretty decent.

How many hair- bands do you have? If your answer is zero, go buy one at least. They are very fashionable right now and look super cool. And work well on bad-hair days.
via
Doesn't she look pretty? Though I do think the eyes are a tad over-done...

via
Neelam has never experimented with her hair and though this look is classic, I am totally loving it.

via
This one is my favorite. And you don't even have to buy a hair-band. Raid your wardrobe and you are sure to find an old bandhini dupatta languishing there. Cut off about 6 inches, get the edges pico-ed, and you are set. Your dupatta won't get ruined either.

What do you do on bad-hair days?

Pampering my feet

3 Thoughts / Comments / Views

After several months, I decided to go get a pedicure done. Several = 5 and the longest I have gone without. So yes, my feet were looking seriously ugly, and I totally wanted to be pampered after  the the no-public-transport-even-when-there-is ordeal yesterday.

After an early morning class of Segundo Nivel de Espanol, I stepped in to Natural's. After telling that I wanted a pedicure for the fifth time, I was taken in, made to sit, offered a menu and asked to choose. I wanted a French pedicure, but they dint have that so I chose something else, not sure which one, but it was definitely not the highest priced one on the list. Since I have a tan on my feet, I am suggested the one that will remove it. Naturally, it is the most expensive pedicure on the menu.

I firmly and politely say, No, thank you and settle down when the girl disappears. Returns after quite some time with towels and begins and ends about 30 minutes later...

I am not totally disappointed with the pedicure but I am not too happy either. You know what i mean? And more than anything, it was the attitude that totally got my goat. That's why I prefer the smaller salons / beauty parlors who do a better job than the super-fancy ones who throw too much attitude around... what do you think?

PS: I got pale pink paint on my toes. my favorite... which makes me super-happy, despite the bad attitude and the single coat she applied. And the really bad massage. Oh, well! I promise not to rant so much for a week at least. Pinky promise.

PPS: The picture, her silver toe-ring and the french pedicure, isn't it super-pretty?
